A Niles man will spend time in jail for stealing money from his 7-year-old niece’s piggy bank to feed his drug habit.
David Monroe, 30, was sentenced Monday, Aug. 11, to 180 days in jail and 15 months probation after pleading guilty to one count of larceny in a building, according to a report from the Niles Daily Star.
Monroe was living with his sister in June when he stole $30 from his niece’s piggy bank. He was on probation for a larceny charge at the time.
“You let your drug addiction rob your niece of money so you can shoot it up your arm,” Berrien County Trial Court Judge Dennis Wiley said during the sentencing.
