A woman is in custody after she stole a pickup truck and led South Bend Police on a high-speed chase while shooting at them.

Police say the woman stole a pickup truck belonging to a retired South Bend Police officer around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, near Main and Wayne streets in downtown South Bend, according to a report from WSBT.

The owner of the truck called police who started to chase the vehicle down Main Street at speeds of up to 100 mph while the suspect shot at police, WSBT reported.

Officers shot back, but no one was injured.

The chase ended on S. Michigan Street between E. Chippewa Avenue and Barbie Street, where police blocked the street Wednesday morning.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide is investigating the incident and collecting evidence at the scene, WSBT reported.

It is police department protocol to turn investigations of officer-involved shootings over to Metro Homicide.
