Elkhart police seek person of interest in Monday night shooting

After a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in Elkhart on Monday, Aug. 4, police are looking for a man who may know more about what happened.

The Elkhart Police Department is looking for a person of interest who may be able to provide information about a Monday evening shooting.

Police were called to the 500 block of W. Marion Street at 11:13 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, said Asst. Chief Laura Koch.

They found a 20-year-old male with an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries and released, Koch said.

Koch said police want to speak with 25-year-old Stephonn Sutton about the incident.

Sutton has been arrested on several charges in Elkhart County since 2005, including possession of marijuana, armed robbery, battery, theft and criminal mischief, according to Elkhart County Jail records.
