South Bend shooting victim identified

Francisco Javier Guzman, 22, died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Police are still searching for the shooter.

The victim of a South Bend shooting during the weekend has been identified as 22-year-old Francisco Javier Guzman.

An autopsy Monday confirmed Guzman died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Police reported to the 4400 block of Huron Circle in South Bend at 11 p.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting. Guzman was transported to South Bend Memorial hospital and was pronounced dead soon after.

The Elkhart Truth’s reporting partner WNDU reports police are looking for two black male suspects. St. Joseph County Metro Homicide is investigating.

Police have asked anyone with information on the shooting to call Metro Homicide at 235-5009 or Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP.
