A former Osolo Township medic accused of killing a man in a hit-and-run crash in January was scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing Monday, July 28, in St. Joseph County, as reported by The Elkhart Truth’s news partner, WNDU.

24-year-old Jeremy Bontrager’s trial is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 11. He has pleaded not guilty for a charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, a Class C Felony.

Police say Bontrager hit and killed 56-year-old Ronald Rodgers on S.R. 933 in Roseland on Jan. 10. Rodgers was walking in the right lane of the road because the nearby sidewalk was covered in snow.

Bontrager told police he heard a loud bang while driving and thought he may have hit something, but didn’t see anything when he turned to look in the street behind him, WNDU reported.
