A St. Joseph County man who spent seven years on the run from police was convicted last week on three counts of child molesting.
Terry Wayne Waugh Jr., 30, was convicted by a jury on one count of child molesting as a Class A felony and two counts of child molesting as a Class C felony on Thursday, July 24, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
The jury acquitted Waugh on a fourth charge, child molesting as a Class B felony, after five hours of deliberation
Waugh was charged July 14, 2005, for molesting the child of his brother’s girlfriend over a two-year period from June 1, 2003, to May 11, 2005.
The child was 9 to 11 years old at the time.
A bench warrant for Waugh’s arrest was issued in January 2007 when he didn’t show up for a scheduled hearing in the case.
He was arrested Nov. 6, 2013, at a Steuben County motel by Indiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service and returned to St. Joseph County to stand trial.
Waugh’s sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 20.
He faces 20 to 50 years in prison on the Class A felony and 2 to 8 years on each Class C count.
