South Bend Common Councilman Henry Davis Jr. was arrested early Saturday morning, July 19, on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated, our news partner WNDU reported.
St. Joseph County Police Department officers arrested Davis after he was spotted driving in the wrong direction on the U.S. 20 Bypass near Mayflower Road, the South Bend Tribune reported. After he was pulled over, Davis refused to take a breath test, WNDU reported.
Davis was being held at the St. Joseph County Jail, but bonded out around 10:45 a.m. Saturday, WNDU reported.
The councilman’s arrest follows a string of recent controversy over his Twitter use, the South Bend Tribune reported. One of his tweets featured an obscene photo, for which the council voted not to discipline him. Shortly afterward, a retweeted message about abortion landed him under investigation by the council.
