GOSHEN — Two men facing charges in connection with an attempted robbery at Saleh’s Market appeared in the Elkhart Circuit Court Thursday, July 17, for their initial hearing.
Robert Smith and Leonard Taylor, both of Elkhart, had separate hearings, but they are both accused of entering Saleh’s Market, 401 Middlebury Street, on July 5 and attempting to rob the business.
Smith, 20, is charged with attempted robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony. Taylor, 19, is charged with attempted robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony, and criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony.
Both men will have a hearing next week to determine whether they have to hire their own attorney or have one provided to them by the state.
Trial dates for both Smith and Taylor are set for 8:30 a.m., Dec. 8.
