The body recovered from the St. Joseph River Friday has been confirmed as the woman who went missing early Tuesday, July 8, according to our reporting partners at WNDU.

Yolanda Anderson, 25, disappeared in the river near South Bend’s Colfax Bridge. It’s unclear why or how she entered the river.

Crews from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources worked all day Tuesday and Wednesday to find Anderson using sonar technology to scan the river bottom. The search continued until 2 p.m. Thursday, when it was called off, according to WSBT.

Emergency crews gathered Friday afternoon near the LaSalle Street bridge, where the body was found.

Anderson was reportedly walking beside the river with some friends and family early Tuesday morning when she entered the water for an unknown reason.

One of the women with her told NewsCenter 16 Anderson got stuck in the current and, before they could help her, she'd been dragged north.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources searched for Anderson all day Tuesday and Wednesday.

They continued searching Thursday but stopped at 2 p.m., WSBT reports.

Indiana Conservation Officer Jonathan Boyd said searches pulled the body from the river this afternoon, just upstream from the East Race, near the Pointe apartment complex. He said there is no reason to suspect foul play.
