South Bend woman missing in St. Joseph River

Emergency crews are searching the river for a 25-year-old South Bend woman, who went into the water around 1:30 a.m.

Emergency crews are searching the St. Joseph River in South Bend for a woman missing in the river.

Indiana Conservation officers, South Bend police and South Bend firefighters were called to the river around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, for a report of a woman calling for help near the Colfax Bridge, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The woman has been identified as 25-year-old Yolanda Anderson of South Bend, who was walking along the river with friends and family and entered the water for an unknown reason, the news release said.

Conservation officers are using “Side Scan Sonar” to search the river bottom. Indiana Conservation Officer Divers and River Rescue teams are also on scene.
