Police in Northern Indiana are warning residents about a possible scam in which the perpetrators impersonate utility workers.

According to a statement on the La Porte County Sheriff Department’s Facebook page, scammers dressed as NIPSCO employees have been going door-to-door telling residents they must inspect their homes due to recent power outages.

Police say utility workers should not need to enter a house during a power outage and ask residents to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
