Earlier this week, thousands of dollars in fireworks were stolen from Freebies Fireworks in Dunlap, our news partner WNDU reported.

The firework shop, located on U.S. 33 in the Dunlap area, was broken into on Tuesday, July 1, and between $3,000 and $4,000 in fireworks was taken, WNDU reported.

The store’s manager, Andrew Schauer, told WNDU he locked up the store around noon Tuesday to take his lunch break. Shortly afterward, he got a call from his landlord saying the shop’s door was wide open.

Schauer told WNDU when he got back, the place was a mess – there was stuff scattered everywhere, and gunpowder from fireworks crushed in a rush to leave the store was strewn over  the floor.

Whoever robbed the store was in and out in about 30 minutes, WNDU reported.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department was alerted to the burglary and is still investigating the incident, WNDU reported.
