Cold case investigators with the Indiana State Police received a tip related to a murder case that happened 39 years ago in either Kosciusko County or Noble County, as reported by Stacey Page Online.

Seventeen-year-old Wawasee High School student Laurel Jean Mitchell was found dead Aug. 7, 1975, in the Elkhart River in Noble County. She was last seen leaving work at Epworth Forest in North Webster the night before.

Investigators received a tip that identifies the group of young singers performing at the Cokesbury Inn inside Epworth Forest that night as “Celebrate the Son.”

Indiana State Police Detective Kevin Smith said he received the information from a North Webster resident last week.

The group consists of four to five boys and girls who are believed to be from the Delphi area. They were approximately 16 to 22 years old at the time and travelled in one vehicle.

Investigators now want to interview the individuals of the group, according to Stacey Page Online. Any former members or individuals with information regarding Celebrate the Son should reach Detective Kevin Smith at 260-403-2841 or 260-432-8661.
