A four-year-old Claypool boy died Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a truck in Silver Lake.
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were called to the Sand’s Mini-Mart gas station on S.R. 15 at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 for a report of a truck vs. pedestrian crash, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson pronounced 4-year-old Logan R. Heeter of Claypool dead at the scene and determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Investigators from the Kosciusko Fatal Alcohol Crash Team found that Logan was attempting to cross the street from the west side of S.R. 15. Travis A. Woodcock, 25, of Louisville, Ky., driving a flatbed truck southbound when he saw the boy in his path. He attempted to brake and swerve but was unable to avoid hitting Logan.
The Silver Lake Police Department, Silver Lake Fire Department and Life-Med E.M.S. assisted at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
