Jerry C. Winfield, accused of stabbing a man over a debt argument on Friday, June 13, has been charged with aggravated battery, a Class B felony.
Winfield, 54, was arrested after he was brought into the police department for questioning following the incident, Elkhart Truth’s news partner WNDU reports.
A South Bend Police Department officer driving down Jefferson near LaSalle Park Homes found the victim, William Johnson, lying on the ground, bleeding from apparent stab wounds.
Johnson was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for surgery, according to court files.
Winfield’s bond was set at $100,000. He remained in custody a the St. Joseph County Jail, WNDU reports.
