Woman taken to hospital with head injury following crash north of Elkhart

The woman driving the car was taken to the hospital with a head injury following the crash, which occurred on the north side of Elkhart County.

A 27-year-old woman is in the hospital with a head injury after her vehicle hit a car, a sign and a tree Thursday night, June 12, on the north side of Elkhart County. 

Emergency crews responded to C.R. 10, just northwest of Kehers Street, for reports of a two-vehicle crash at about 11:15 p.m, according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Mandy Purvis, of Elkhart, was driving southeast on C.R. 10 when she drove off on to the left lane, crashing into a vehicle going northwest on C.R. 10.

The driver of the other vehicle, Derek Sims, 28, of Elkhart, was not injured. 

Purvis’ vehicle kept going, driving off the road and crashing into a sign and a tree. Purvis was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with a head injury. 

According to the news release, Purvis is being investigated for driving while intoxicated.
