One person suffers minor injuries after a semi truck sideswiped a buggy

A semi truck sideswiped a horse-drawn buggy Monday evening south of New Paris.

One person suffered minor injuries after a semi truck sideswiped a horse-drawn buggy south of New Paris Monday evening.

Morad Mohammed, 37, of Palos Hills, Ill., was driving a semi truck westbound on U.S. 6 east of C.R. 23 around 9 p.m. Monday, June 9, when he attempted to pass a horse-drawn buggy, according to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

As he attempted to pass the buggy, driven by 62-year-old Karle Miller of Nappanee, Mohammed’s semi sideswiped the buggy.

The buggy rolled off the north side of the road, where it came to rest.

Miller was transported to IU Health Goshen for treatment of cuts to his head and neck pain. A passenger in the buggy did not require treatment according to the release.

Mohammed was cited for improper passing.
