A judge has ordered a competency hearing for a man facing murder charges for allegedly shooting an acquaintance in a game of Russian roulette.

Jacob Saye, 22, is accused of shooting Christopher White at a party in South Bend in February with a semi-automatic handgun after suggesting they play Russian roulette, according to a report from the South Bend Tribune.

Thomas Patrick Keller, Saye’s attorney, requested the evaluation to determine if his client is competent to assist in his own defense.

Keller has filed for an insanity defense and the doctors will evaluate Saye to determine his state of mind at the time of the shooting, the Tribune reports.

A status hearing in Saye’s case was scheduled for July 15.
