Man accused in Theresa Burns slaying to appear in court

A South Bend man accused of killing a Mishwaka High School student in 1988 is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

Phillip Geans, 43, was charged in December 2013 with murder in the shooting of 16-year-old Theresa Burns, according to the Elkhart Truth’s reporting partner, WNDU.com. He is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial conference hearing Monday morning, June 2.

Burns was found dead in her home in January 1988 after she left school to change clothes and didn’t return.

Burns is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail awaiting his June 23 trial.
