Rape reported at Indiana University South Bend campus Thursday, May 29

Authorities are searching for a suspect after a reported rape near the IU South Bend campus Thursday night, May 29.

The incident happened in Veterans’ Memorial Park, 1621 Northside Blvd., between 9:30 and 10 p.m., as reported by The Elkhart Truth’s news partner WNDU.

An alert sent to students and staff described the suspect as a white man, 6-feet 4-inches tall, weighing 320 to 350 pounds. His hair color was not given, but he had a crew-cut style and was wearing wire-rimmed glasses. He was last seen driving a gold Mercury Sable sedan, thought to be a 2000 model or newer.

The IUSB Campus Police are still investigating the incident, according the news release posted on WSBT.com. Anyone with information about about the crime can contact the IUSC police at 574-520-4239.

The police also said they are available 24-hours a day to provide assistance and escorts.
