Syracuse man arrested after sinking his own boat on Memorial Day

Johnathan Heckaman of Syracuse was arrested on a preliminary charge of boating while intoxicated after sinking his own boat on Lake Syracuse.

A Syracuse man was arrested Memorial Day after he sunk his own boat on Lake Syracuse.

Indiana Conservation officers were called by Syracuse police to the public access site on Lake Syracuse to investigate a sunken boat at 6 p.m. Monday, May 26, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

They found that 33-year-old Johnathan Heckaman had attempted to put his boat on a trailer while drunk and sank the boat, according to the DNR.

He was arrested on a preliminary charge of boating while intoxicated.
