The driver of a cab that crashed into a building over Memorial Day weekend told police that he fell asleep at the wheel.

Jeffrey Greenwood of Elkhart was driving an otherwise unoccupied Ace Cab when the vehicle crashed into a wall at Morris Auto Service around 7 a.m. Sunday, May 25, Lt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department said.

Greenwood told police at the scene that he fell asleep while driving, according to the crash report from the Elkhart Police Department.

Greenwood was taken to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for pain.

Morris Auto Service is open for business as usual, Cameron Yoder, general manager, said in a phone interview Tuesday morning.

The wall was boarded up temporarily on Sunday after the crash and one of the lifts is unusable because of the debris from the crash, he added, but otherwise they are able to take care of customers and their vehicles.
