Elkhart single-story house sustained heavy damage from fire

ELKHART – A house at 1404 E. Indiana Ave. in Elkhart was the scene of a fire Saturday morning, May 17.

The blaze began at about 7:30 a.m.

A resident of the house said the fire started on a stack of tires next to the garage. The fire was extinguished quickly, but the garage was destroyed, and the home was heavily damaged.

Two residents were in the house at the time of the fire and escaped injury.

The Elkhart Police Department blocked off traffic on East Indiana Avenue at the road’s intersections with Arch Street and Goshen Avenue.

Further details were not available as of late Saturday afternoon.

The house is along a curve in the road about two blocks south of Goshen Avenue.
