White Pigeon, Mich., man taken to hospital after tree falls on moving SUV

    Jeffrey Balcum, of White Pigeon, Mich., had to be extricated from his SUV after a tree fell on it while he was driving on S.R. 120.

    A man was taken to the hospital after a tree fell on his SUV as he was driving Thursday afternoon, May 15. 

    The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and EMS units were called at about 3:16 p.m. to S.R. 120, east of C.R. 15, for reports of the crash. 

    According to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Jeffrey Balcum, 48, of White Pigeon, Mich., was driving east on S.R. 120 when a tree from the property at 22561 S.R. 120 fell onto his SUV. 

    According to the press release, Balcum continued driving 200 yards before going off the south side of the road and stopping. Balcum was extricated from his vehicle and taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with neck pain.
