With traffic control signals affected by a power outage Friday morning, May 16, in the downtown South Bend area, police are asking drivers to be extra careful when traveling through the affected areas.

The power outage was caused by a fire underground in a man hole Thursday night, May 15, The Elkhart Truth’s news partner WNDU reported.

In a press release sent out Friday, the South Bend Police Department said temporary traffic control devices have been placed at intersections.

Officers will be monitoring traffic at intersections to ensure safe travel, according to the news release. However, drivers are asked to find alternate routes when possible.
