GOSHEN — A woman who is in the process of being extradited to Elkhart County on charges of child molesting allegedly touched two children inappropriately in 2009 and 2010, according to court files.
Gina Byrd, 34, was arrested in Oklahoma on a warrant Wednesday, May 14, following a two-month search, according to a Facebook post from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
Byrd, whose last known address was Elkhart, is charged with two counts of child molesting as Class C felonies. In Indiana, a Class C felony is punishable by up to eight years in prison.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in support of the charges, Byrd is accused of touching two children inappropriately and, in at least one case, asking the child to touch her.
The victims, a boy and a girl, were younger than 14 when they were molested, according to court files. The two separate incidents happened in Elkhart County in 2009 and 2010.
As of Friday afternoon, Byrd had not been transported to the Elkhart County Jail and did not have a hearing scheduled in court.
