Elkhart I&M customers on east side should have power now

Indiana Michigan Power repaired a pole that caught fire at C.R. 14 and C.R. 17 Monday afternoon, May 12.

ELKHART — Hundreds of residents on the east side of Elkhart County were without power for part of Monday afternoon, May 12, because of an electrical pole that caught fire. 

The Concord Township Fire Department and Indiana Michigan Power were called at about 12:20 p.m. to C.R. 17 and C.R. 14 on reports of an electrical pole fire, according to a dispatcher from the Elkhart County 911 Center. 

Tracy Warner, a spokesman for I&M, said about 1,900 customers were left without power as a result of the fire. Warner said that as of 4 p.m. power had been restored to all customers affected. 

Ivy Tech North Central in Elkhart was affected by the power outage and cancelled classes for the rest of the day at 2 p.m. Monday.
