ELKHART — More than 1,000 customers were reported without power in Elkhart County Friday morning, May 9.

Emergency crews and AEP crews worked in different locations throughout Elkhart where customers reported downed power lines.

Crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Willowdale Avenue and the 300 block of West High Street for reports of fallen power lines.

Tracy Warner, a spokesman from Indiana Michigan Power, said crews responded to reports of a tree on a power line at about 4:30 a.m. on Friday.

In order to remove the tree the crews usually have to remove a section of the power line, cutting power to some customers. Power was restored by 11 a.m.
