Man suspected of starting fire on public property near Centreville being sought

Police is searching for a man suspected of starting a fire on public property.

CENTREVILLE, Mich. — Police are looking for a man who is accused of starting a fire in a public area in Nottawa Township, Mich.

According to a press release from the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department, the fire started at the Evans Lake Public Access on Bucknell Road, near Truckenmiller Road.

Emergency units were called to the scene of the fire at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, May 4.

Police think the suspect was dumping trash at the access site and then lit the trash on fire. The fire spread to surrounding brush.

Witnesses say they saw a white man wearing a red shirt in a white Ford F150 with an extended cab.
