ELKHART — A weekend parking lot fire at an Elkhart recyclables plant rekindled early Monday morning, April 28.

Cleveland Township Fire Department was called out to Green Stream Company around 5:38 a.m., a dispatcher with the Elkhart County 911 Center confirmed. Green Stream Company is located at 29414 Phillips St., off of C.R. 12 on Elkhart's west side.

Osolo and Baugo township fire departments also were on scene. The fire was quickly under control and crews left the scene around 6:45 a.m.

Amit Shah, who owns the company, told The Elkhart Truth that semi trailer compartments and roll off hoppers were damaged in the fire that started around 11 p.m. Saturday, April 26, and lasted into early Sunday morning.

"I'm more happy that no one was hurt, and that the fire department did a great job containing the fire," said Shah, who has owned the business since 2010. "We did lose some equipment, but that's always replaceable."

No damage was done to the main structure and nobody was injured. Shah said he didn't expect the fire to affect his customers.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
