ELKHART — Two people suffered minor injuries in a two-car crash at the intersection of C.R. 17 and S.R. 120 Wednesday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, 19-year-old Maritza E. Ponciano Gomez, of Elkhart, was driving a Volkswagon Passat northbound on C.R. 17 in the left turn lane around 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, and entered the intersection to turn left onto S.R. 120 as the traffic signal turned yellow.
At the same time, a Ford Escape driven by Katlin D. Roske, 25, of Elkhart, entered the intersection headed south on C.R. 17.
The two vehicles collided and both sustained heavy front-end damage, according to the news release.
Ponciano Gomez suffered cuts to her hands but refused medical treatment at the scene. Roske was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with a complaint of a headache.
Ponciano Gomez was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way. Roske was cited for driving with a suspended license.
