A woman and a man were taken to the hospital early Friday morning, April 11, following a stabbing just west of South Bend Memorial Hospital, our news partner WNDU reported.
The incident occurred around 7 a.m. in the 600 block of Portage Avenue, WNDU reported. Officials told WNDU the man assaulted the woman, and she stabbed him in the chest in self-defense.
The man is in critical condition, WNDU reported. The woman was injured and taken to the hospital, but the extent of her injuries is unknown.
The South Bend Police Department tweeted St. Joseph County Metro Homicide would be taking over the investigation.
