ELKHART — A man was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries after a vehicle fire blocked traffic on Nappanee Street Thursday morning, April 3.

The Elkhart Fire Department and Elkhart Police Department were called to a crash on Nappanee Street near Fulton Street around 6:50 a.m., Lt. Mike Sigsbee with the Elkhart Police Department said.

The vehicle had crashed into a stop sign and caught on fire. The man was initially unable to get out of the vehicle due to a possible medical issue, but fire crews were able to get him out quickly.

The fire was out within a matter of minutes, Sigsbee said.

Nappanee Street was reopened just before 8 a.m.
