The man is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student
MISHAWAKA - An employee at Mishawaka High School and part-time coach at Holy Cross College has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student, as reporter by The Elkhart Truth’s news partner WNDU.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office said Ryan Mouch, 25, has been arrested and faces preliminary charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, vicarious sexual gratification and solicitation of a child, as reported by WSBT.
A charge of sexual misconduct is defined in Indiana law as a person at least 18 years old who performs or submits to sexual intercourse with a child who is at least 14 years old but younger than 16. It's a Class C felony.
State laws define vicarious sexual gratification as someone who is at least 18 years old who "knowingly or intentionally directs, aids, induces, or causes a child under the age of 16 to touch or fondle" himself or herself with "intent to arouse or satisfy the sexual desires of a child, or the older person commits vicarious sexual gratification." The charge is a Class D felony.
The School City of Mishawaka and Holy Cross College have both suspended Mouch without pay.
The prosecutor’s office said that formal charges have not been filed against Mouch.
The St. Joseph Special Victims Unit is handling the investigation.
