One person dead after being hit by a car along Cassopolis Street in Elkhart

Cassopolis Street was closed between Emerson Drive and Woodlawn Avenue for several hours Saturday as police investigated the scene.

ELKHART - A person is dead after being hit by a car on Saturday, March 22, in the 2200 block of Cassopolis Street in Elkhart, according to a press release from the Elkhart Police Department.

The accident resulted in the temporary closure of one of Elkhart’s busiest streets for three hours.

Elkhart Police Department released very few details Saturday.

The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of family.

Police responded to the scene at 12:30 p.m. and circled numerous items on the road as possible evidence.

The street was closed between Emerson Drive and Woodlawn Avenue for three hours, essentially cutting off traffic just south of C.R. 6.
