Drunk driver at McDonald's in Edwardsburg gets probation

A driver in a McDonald's drive-thru was accused of drunk driving after he tried to flee but instead knocked down a police officer and hit a squad car. He was sentenced to two years probation.

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — An Edwardsburg man was placed on probation Friday, March 14, in Cass County Circuit Court for an incident at the McDonald's on M-62.

Judge Michael Dodge sentenced to Mark Edward Leahy, 47, to two years on the Swift and Sure probation program.

Leahy was arrested and accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated at the McDonald’s on Jan. 28, 2013, when he fled and hit a police officer, knocked him down and then hit a squad car.

Leahy is also under lifetime monitoring from a previous Indiana sentence.

He told the judge that he is doesn’t drink anymore and is going to school and is working toward obtaining his general education degree. He said he has a job waiting for him to work at a shop for his father and will make $12 an hour.

Dodge acknowledged by saying he was “glad to hear that.” He gave him credit for 402 days served.
