ELKHART — The court moved the sentencing hearing for a man convicted of murder for his connection with an April 2013 fatal shooting.

Leeshawn Rodgers, 20, was found guilty of murder Wednesday, Feb. 19, after a three-day jury trial . Rodgers was accused of fatally shooting Eddie Johnson, 34, the afternoon of April 30, 2013, on the corner of Sixth Street and Cleveland Avenue in Elkhart.

Elkhart Circuit Court moved Rodgers' sentencing hearing to 8:30 a.m. May 1. The extended time would allow Rodgers to go under a mental health evaluation.

Rodgers denied having shot Johnson, but several witnesses testified during the trial and placed Rodgers on the scene of the homicide that day.
