Fire breaks out in Elkhart home's basement

The Elkhart Police Department responded to a fire Friday night, Feb. 28. No one was injured.

ELKHART – A fire broke out in the basement bedroom of an Elkhart home Friday night, Feb. 28.

Around 8:30 p.m., a fire was reported at 1255 Columbian Ave. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found smoke pouring from all sides of the home, a news release from the Elkhart Fire Department said.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames by 11 p.m., and minimal damage was done to the home, the release said.

The home was occupied when the fire started, but no one was injured.
