Man accused of robbing Elkhart CVS arrested following chase

The suspect demanded money while displaying knife at the CVS store and left with cigarette packets.

ELKHART — Police arrested a man accused of robbing a store in the north side of Elkhart after a short car chase Saturday, Feb. 22.

Officers from the Elkhart Police Department responded at 2:30 p.m. to the CVS Store at 3600 Cassopolis St. to reports of a robbery.

Mitchell Dubash, 21, of Elkhart, was arrested a few minutes later in the 53000 block of C.R. 9. Dubash was arrested on preliminary charges of robbery while armed with a deadly weapon and resisting law enforcement.

Capt. Kris Seymore, head of the criminal investigation's division, said the victims reported a man came into the store and displayed a knife.

The victims said the suspect demanded money but took only cigarettes with him when he fled.

After hearing the description of the suspect and his vehicle, Cpl. Jason Reed saw Dubash's vehicle heading south on C.R. 9. Dubash was arrested after a short pursuit within the 53000 block of C.R. 9.

Dubash was booked in the Elkhart County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Formal charges have not been filed in his case.

The CVS Pharmacy at 3600 Cassopolis St. was recently targeted in another robbery. According to police reports, on Jan. 22, a woman driving a white Impala with Illinois license plates approached the pharmacy drive-through and handed a note to employees saying she was being held against her will and that she was in danger if the pharmacist did not fill the bag with prescription drugs.

The woman received an undisclosed amount of painkillers, including Oxycodone, according to police.
