ELKHART — A woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Jeanwood Drive on Friday evening.
Elkhart City Communications Center dispatched police and medics to the intersection of Jeanwood and East Lake Drive at 5:46 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.
Sgt. Travis Snider of the Elkhart Police Department said the woman was driving southbound on Jeanwood Drive at "an extreme rate of speed" when she struck a Toyota Tundra that had been driving westbound on East Lake Drive turning southbound onto Jeanwood.
The force of the impact pushed the Tundra several hundred feet down the road. The woman's vehicle spun out and struck a stop sign and utility pole on the west side of the roadway.
Snider said the woman suffered injuries to her upper legs and pain to her chest. She was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
The driver and passenger in the Tundra, both juveniles, were uninjured.
Jeanwood Drive was closed to traffic in both directions while crews worked to clear the scene.
