Motorist cut up by snow and ice that crashed through his windshield

The truck's driver said a chunk of ice flew off a passing semi and into his vehicle.

NEW PARIS — A Warsaw man was hospitalized Thursday after a sheet of ice and snow fell from a passing semi and crashed through his windshield.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, 38-year-old John Hollon of Warsaw was driving a Mitsubishi box truck eastbound on U.S. 6 southeast of New Paris at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, when the snow and ice broke off a westbound truck and flew through the windshield of his vehicle.

Hollon was taken to IU Health Goshen with several lacerations to his face and a possible concussion, according to a sheriff's department news release.

No citations were issued at the scene.
