Man rescued from St. Joseph River taken off life support

SOUTH BEND — A man rescued from the St. Joseph River Monday evening, Feb. 10 died in the hospital Tuesday.

According to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the man, identified as Stephen M. Rodick, 57, of South Bend, was taken off life support at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Emergency units were called to the river near Darden Road at about 6:20 p.m. for reports of a man in the water.

Rodick was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

The DNR sent out a press release Modnay asking the pubic to help them identify the man.

Officers received several phone calls to the 800-TIP-IDNR aided in identifying Rodick, according to the press release.
