Trial date set for Goshen man charged with leaving scene of fatal crash

A trial date has been set for Jeremy Bontrager, of Goshen, who is accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

SOUTH BEND — A Goshen man charged with leaving the scene of a deadly crash in Roseland appeared in court for a hearing Tuesday morning, Feb. 4.

During Jeremy Bontrager's hearing, the court set a trial date for May 12. 

Bontrager, 24, is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, a Class C felony. Ronald Rodgers, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. 

According to reports from the St. Joseph County prosecutor's office, Roseland police officers were dispatched to S.R. 933 just south of the Indiana Toll Road in Roseland on Jan. 10.

Officers found a man on who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle on the northbound driving lane of S.R. 933.

Bontrager allegedly left the scene of the accident. After the South Bend Police Department received a tip the next day, they brought Bontrager for questioning.
