WHITLEY COUNTY — A Fort Wayne truck driver was arrested Saturday when police found 38 kilograms of cocaine in his truck.
Guadalupe Quintanilla, 69, was driving a semi eastbound on U.S. 30 near Columbia City when he was pulled over for traffic and equipment violations by Indiana State Police troopers just after 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, according to a state police news release.
As the officers spoke to Quintanilla, they "became suspicious of potential criminal activity based on their training and experience," according to the release.
A state police K-9 was brought to the scene and alerted officers to the potential presence of drugs in the semi.
Quintanilla gave the officers permission to search the trailer and they discovered 38 wrapped packages containing a white powder, which was later identified as cocaine.
The drugs, weighing a total of about 38 kilograms, had an estimated street value of $3 million to $4 million, according to state police.
Quintanilla was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine and dealing in cocaine and incarcerated without bond at the Whitley County Jail.
