Environmental screening ongoing at site of Lami-Plast fire

IDEM on-scene coordinator goes over initial findings at site of Lami-Plast fire.

Rich Hackel, on-scene coordinator for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), talks about screening for environmental hazards of Sunday's fire at the Lami-Plast plant in Elkhart.

While initial tests have not found noxious chemicals in the air or water, IDEM is still waiting to speak with the owners and managers of Lami-Plast for information on the exact chemicals inside the plant and their quantities, Hackel said.

"We know the type of business it was, the type of chemicals it would use, but we don't know the details yet," he said. Click here to read more.
