ELKHART — The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department credits the community with helping officers nab an Elkhart man wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, officers arrested Michael Fitch Jr. on Monday morning, Jan. 13, in the 1400 block of Delaware Street.

The department posted Fitch’s photo on its Facebook page on Friday, Jan. 10, and asked citizens to help find him.

According to Elkhart County Jail records, Fitch was booked at the facility Monday on nine criminal warrants.

Capt. James Bradberry said the arrest came after “a concerned citizen saw the posting on Facebook” and alerted the sheriff’s department to Fitch’s whereabouts.

Fitch had previously been arrested on charges including sexual conduct with a minor, disorderly conduct, fleeing, criminal trespass, resisting law enforcement and failure to register as a sex offender, according to jail records.
