ELKHART — Fire investigators were unable to determine the cause and origin of fire that destroyed a barn in Baugo Township over the weekend.

Five fire departments were called to 29730 C.R. 26, about a quarter-mile east of C.R. 1, on reports of a fire at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.

Units from Baugo, Concord, Wakarusa, Harrison and Penn Townships responded. The fire was out after about two hours.

Brian Gonzales, assistant fire chief of the Baugo Township Fire Department, said the muddy terrain slowed crews down as they tried to put the fire out.

Some animals were in the barn at the time the fire started, but they were safely taken out of the barn. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Gonzales said the structure received too much damage for investigators to find what caused the blaze.

The building was a total loss, Gonzales said.
