ELKHART — No one was seriously injured in a crash involving a Concord school bus and a passenger car Monday afternoon in Dunlap.

Deputies from the sheriff's department and EMS units were dispatched at 3:31 p.m. to U.S. 33, south of C.R. 13, according to a county dispatcher.

Patrolman Chad Hoien of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said 24 fifth and sixth-grade children were riding the school bus, which had just left Concord Intermediate School.

Hoien said although no one was seriously injured, paramedics checked the children in the bus to make sure everyone was fine.

An 11-year-old boy was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with complaints of pain to his wrist.

Jerry Denny, 45, the driver of the car that hit the bus, said he and a passenger in his car were not hurt.

According to a press release from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, Denny was driving a black passenger car southeast on U.S. 33 in the inside lane when he drifted left into the turn lane where the school bus was stopped.

The car hit the rear passenger side of the bus and the crash caused the vehicle to spin out and hit the bus again on its passenger side.

Denny was cited for making an unsafe lane movement.

Traffic in southbound lanes was closed for a short time but one lane had been reopened within an hour.
