ELKHART — A man injured in a car crash Thursday night, Nov. 21, on the north side of Elkhart died from his injuries early Friday morning, Nov. 22.

Adam Landis, 29, of South Bend, was taken to Memorial Hospital on Thursday. He was pronounced dead Friday morning, according to Elkhart police.

Landis was found lying about 10 feet from a car in a field along John Weaver Parkway, near Aeroplex Drive.

A passer-by called 911 at 6:24 p.m. after seeing a white sedan in the field, said Sgt. Scott Hupp of the Elkhart Police Department.

MedFlight and Samaritan helicopter services were called to airlift Landis to a hospital, but bad weather prevented both from taking flight. An ambulance took him to the South Bend hospital.

Lt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department said officers and K-9 units searched the area to make sure no one else affected by the crash was at the scene.

“At this point I don’t have any reason to believe there was another person traveling in the vehicle when the crash occurred,” he said.

Sigsbee said the police department is working to determine how the crash happened and why.
