Bristol man under intensive care after being struck by SUV

A man is under intensive care after he was hit by an SUV Friday in Bristol.

BRISTOL — A Bristol man who was injured in a crash Friday evening when he was hit by an SUV remains under intensive care, according to family members.

Jeremy Miltroka, 25, was driving his motorcycle northbound on C.R. 23 north of C.R. 104 at about 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, when his vehicle went left of the center line and he fell off, according to initial reports from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Deann Kaffman-Shirley, 47, of Middlebury, was driving an SUV southbound on C.R. 23 when she struck Miltroka.

Kauffman-Shirley was not injured.

Miltroka was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. According to initial reports, Miltroka had a broken leg and other injuries to his lower extremities.

However, a family member who did not want to be identified said Miltroka is being treated in the intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital.

Among his injuries, Miltroka suffered a broken vertebrae and his spleen had to be surgically removed. Miltroka is on life-support on a ventilator, the relative said.

No citations were issued at the scene. The Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident.
